28!

"28!" that's what my calendar says today.

It reminds me that 28! very short years ago I came into the world. Every year I'm a year older and every year I'm equally amazed that it's even possible that a year has passed since the last.

It's my 28!th birthday today...and though I never thought my life would look like it does today I do know better today than ever before what this life is about, that I'm so relieved I gave it away and I'm more thankful every day that I don't have control to make it what I thought it would be.

Loving life at 28!

I suppose this is a great space to review the last year of my life. Today my life is FULL! At some point soon I'll unpack all the changes that I'm walking through in addition to turning 28! here...but for now a 28! image photographic review will have to suffice!

Year 28! (or is it 27...I'm always so confused about how that works?):

1. ACL 2010! I was 27 for twice at ACL! This may be the only year that I'm the same age at two Festivals!

2. Everest Road shot the Boyd wedding in Maryland and we got a day in Annapolis while I was 27!

3. Our epic Garner camping trip was a 27 hit!

4. And one of my very favorite couples got married while I was 27.

5. The roommate celebrated her birthday with a chili cook-off while I was 27.

6. At 27 I had a fabulous Thanksgiving with my family!!!

7. I can't express how thankful I am for this crew...here at my 28!th Christmas with my family!!

8. The third annual Monarch ski trip happened while I was 27

9. I was, yet again, reminded how blessed I am to have fabulous friends (in Salida, CO) at 27.

10. Baby chick #2 was born while I was 27. I LOVE my Elise Joy!!!

11.The chicks spent a weekend in Austin to greet baby Elise!

12. My girlzzzzzzzzzzz (DDD), yet again, blessed my life while I was 27 (at an end of year celebration on the lake at the Blair home)

13. My precious roommates made being 27 one of the greats! (and at the end of year 27 I even got a new fun roommate.)

14. I caught up with a very close friend when I was 27 (it had been almost ten years). This one's from our first trip to NYC this year.

15. At Courtney's wedding...At 27 I still have the best friends in the world.

16. We celebrated the coming of my favorite Maggie Beth with showers when I was 27!

17. Hosting parties for my best friend (sis) was one of the greatest parts of 27.

18. Well...that and hosting parties for my precious friend/business partner/rock, Julie. While I was 27 sweet Hadley came into the world too!!

19. And then she was born!!! The best moment of 27 by a landslide was the arrival of MAGGIE BETH!

20. When Rachel has a birthday we celebrate on the river! These sweet friends left to travel the world soon after this 27th pic. So thankful for them.

21. My 27-year-old happy place

22. On the river...so thankful we get to do life together, cousin!

23. I was FLOORED by an amazing vacation to the DR with great friends while I was 27.

24. 27 was made awesome by days like these - a lake day with some of my favorite folks!

25. This group made 27 fabulous.

26.I did a heck of a lot of this while I was 27...but hopefully I'll do even more at 28!

27. NYC for the second time with three of my very favorite people included Time Square excitement like this!

28. And then there was the second ACL of 27 with one of my very BFFL!

So you see, www, that I had a FABULOUS year being 27. I can only dream of how great 28! will be. And just because everything's better with her...

My Last Trip Up North

A comment on my last post suggested it's clear that this blog has been slow rollin' for a few months. So twice in one week ought to convince people I'm still alive and kicking and this blog hasn't died...

Tomorrow evening I'm headed to visit some very dear friends in NYC. That's right...I'm fleeing the fires to see another spot where rain is not a thing of the past. I'm so stinking fortunate to have good friends that live in such cool places...in part because I can convince my good friends from this cool place to travel with me to visit them.

That said, in honor of my trip to the Big Apple this weekend...and the 10th anniversary of September 11, I thought I'd finally post photos from my April trip up north today.

It's pretty incredible what God's done in my heart for this city. When I visited for the first time five years ago, I'd have told you it was great, but I had no real desire to even visit again. I'm an outdoor, green landscape, fresh air kinda girl.

Since then several of my best friends have made their home in NYC. As I've prayed for them and heard  stories of how God's using them there, he's changed my heart. Though I'm not sure I'll ever live in Brooklyn or Manhattan, something stirs in me for this city. When I get to visit I am excited for the work God's doing there. I'm now passionate about the arts, the stage, and the corporate world there.

Over and over in my life...God proves he's in control of even what makes my heart race.

Alright so looking through these photos, it's insane to think how much life has changed for me in the last five months. For one...I'm an aunt. Sad Rachel won't be joining us tomorrow, but so so glad to know my precious little bug - Maggie Beth!

I'm not sure I mentioned....my friends are kind of a big deal. While we were there, I visited Broadway Dance Center where Megan works and we also enjoyed a night at the Gershwin to see Katie in Wicked. Yeah you read that right, I have ridiculously talented friends. Megan nearly runs BDC (yep the one seen in the movies and on shows like SYTYCD) and Katie sure is the lead in Wicked. It was SO SO fun to see them both!

A Dominican Vacation

Last week I traveled with one of my best friends and a couple of amazing families to the Dominican Republic. We played, we swam, we ate, we read, we rested...There's really no way to sum up how grateful I am for such an incredible week. The beaches, the weather, the people...the Dominican does it WELL!

Though Hurricane Irene might have wished otherwise, we had a fabulous time. I really love both of these families and their precious daughters (You may recognize Addison and Olivia from the biz blog.) And as I sit now watching the devastation that this super drought has caused our state this week, I must say we were kind of thankful to see that unfamiliar thing called rain for four of our seven day vacation.

Have I mentioned that I have the best friends in the universe?!
