Last week was Spring Break for the kids that the children's home, which worked out great for me!
I spent Monday at Wimberley Ziplines with the Campus kids...so much fun. You should check that out if you haven't - 8 ziplines!
But on Wednesday I got to go to Cameron Zoo in Waco with kids from the HOPE Program. It was so much fun. 16 crazy kids + 5 adults + awesome zoo = Crazy! I forgot how much fun the zoo was. I haven't been since I was a kid. When we lived in Kansas, we would go to the zoo practically every weekend. I remember feeling like Garden City Zoo was home. We saw the elephant show every time, and I loved it.
This time, though, I saw something INCREDIBLE at the zoo. I've never seen anything like it...
Six year old, Yaya, had been begging to see the snake exhibit ALL DAY. When we finally found it, in a dark room with hundreds of sweaty kids running around making it terribly difficult to keep track of our 16, I was only slightly interested until...
I was dramatically stopped in my tracks when I came across it...
The kind of thing you only see on National Geographics...never in person.
I didn't know if this moment would ever be duplicated, so I captured it as well as I could...
Can you believe that?!
You better believe my face, along with 16 other sweaty little noses, was glued to that plexiglass for the next twenty minutes.
We watched this medium sized snake disconnect his jaw from the rest of his slithery self, open wide and nearly inhale that entire ENORMOUS rat.
no chewing
no saliva
no swallowing
inhaling...that's it.
This is the moment I would generally say, "Isn't God incredible?"
But this time, I'm not sure what to say.
This was crazy, sick, disgusting and FASCINATING!!

i can't decide what words to use in this comment. nor can i decide exactly which part of the mouse is which (other than the tail). i've been staring for way too long in awe.
Annalee, I'm pretty sure they're
rat cajones. I almost wrote something about it, but again...my grandmother.
oh so sick!! rat cajones...thanks for clarifying. i too was having a hard time figuring out what rat body parts were there.
there needs to be a warning on this picture. i was slowing scrolling down and then gasped and had to click away.
Sick.
Incredible yes, but I just ate lunch...
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I hate rats, but what a rough end for that one!
I showed this picture to my class today because we were talking about snakes. We were fascinated yet grossed out at the same time. Little did I know what rat body part I was actually showing them! Oops! :)
