Tomorrow Shoes

I tend to rebel against things that are trendy...at least for the first couple months.

Ultimately...I'm such a follower. I always end up loving what is popular (something I've only recently learned to admit).

Which makes this post pretty appropriate.

If you're not familiar with Toms Shoes, you should click here then come back and read the rest of this post.

I think Toms may be cooler than me. That's why I haven't bought them before now. Otherwise, I would have totally been in on buying a pair of shoes whilst giving a pair to someone in need years ago when these were on their way up.

Though I have become less cool if anything, I buckled this week. I bought a pair of Toms.

I might not have, except there was a really neat opportunity to Style Your Soles (read "decorate Toms") here in Austin. When I heard about it, this crazy creative monster in me (that often hides VERY deep) took over...only to totally bail when I needed her most.

As I sat down in front of my new perfectly white blank canvas (shoes) I panicked. Absolutely nothing came to mind. I was dehydrated of all creative juices. I felt paralyzed.

I nearly left the place with white shoes.

Finally, I reminded myself how cool I had to be to wear plain Toms.

Hopeless, I painted a stripe of the first paint I could get my hands on onto them...mistake.

The first of many. It took A LOT of ridiculous mistakes and attempted "fixes" to get me where I ended up.

They're not perfect. They're pretty ridiculous. But...they're mine and NO ONE has anything like them...

which may mean that this trend-follower is actually becoming ORIGINAL!

Naaaa.

P.S. For those of you waiting for the big announcement...I'm lugubrious (thesaurus.com) to tell you that it will be a few days longer than I expected. Hold out...it will be worth it :)
