yIKEs!

Because the question has most certainly arisen today...

I wanted to post a quick update on my family in Friendswood and IKE!

My parents are stubborn...stubborn I tell you. They will not be evacuating our beloved city, although the weather predictions are clear that Ike is coming, the Schmales in Galveston County are "hunkerin down" (as Texans are being quoted).

Three years ago, my parents evacuated for Hurricane Rita. The drive from Friendswood to Austin (generally 3.5 hours) was 13 hours. With 2 dogs, a cat , my 13 (at the time) year old brother, family photos and computers aboard they were miserable. So they've decided they're safer at home this time around.

I'm sure that they'll be fine, but I would feel a lot better if we were together (preferably them here). If I were there I may feel better about all of this, but the distance is unnerving.

My terribly optimistic father has bought a few boards to cover windows should they break in the storm. Ironically much of our house is covered in windows so I feel certain "a few boards" will do little damage control should the storm be bad enough. We shall see.

So, if you're praying, pray that our house will be safe and my parents will be wise.

Thanks so much!

p.s. let it be known that I am loving my blog with this colorful hurricane picture at the top of it - like get super excited about it, all bright and stuff. I think I might be CRAZY!
